An essential ingredient in Louisiana-based Cajun cuisine, Cajun seasoning combines herbs and spices. The paprika adds a smoky taste, while the thyme and oregano add a sweet, earthy flavor.
Ingredients of Cajun seasoning:
There is a mixture of paprika, cayenne peppers, garlic powders, onion powders, black and red pepper, thyme, and oregano.
Uses of Cajun Seasoning:
It has long been one of my favorite seasonings to use in various dishes, whether they be roasted in the oven or grilled, soups or stir-fries, dips or dippers. It's one of those beautiful spice combinations that can be used with anything. In addition to being a terrific spice for grilled chicken and oven fries, Cajun seasoning may also be used to season seafood dishes like grilled shrimp and shrimp to-boys and classics like gumbo and jambalaya.
Make Cajun deviled eggs, Cajun popcorn, and Cajun dips and sauces. This seasoning can be added to crawfish and other Louisiana staples, including gumbo, dirty rice. All-purpose powdered seasoning blend can also be used as a breading or rub in the breading of fried chicken or for barbecue.
Cajun seasoning is best used within two to three years of purchase. Cajun seasoning sold in a jar will not spoil. Still, it will lose its flavor and effectiveness with time, so it is recommended to use it within a specific time frame to maintain the highest quality possible.
Do you know what Cajun seasoning is like?
Cajun Seasoning has a smoky, garlicky, spicy, and earthy flavor character. It has a robust spicy flavor (from the cayenne pepper and paprika) as well as a subtle earthiness, which is why it is known as Cajun Seasoning (provided by the garlic, onion, and herbs)
