Ancho Pepper Sauce

Ancho Pepper Sauce

Ingredients

  • 4-5 dried ancho peppers
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

Step 1

Remove the stems and seeds from the dried ancho peppers and discard them. Tear the peppers into small pieces and place them in a bowl.

Step 2

Pour 2 cups of boiling water over the ancho peppers and let them soak for 15-20 minutes until they are soft.

Step 3

Drain the peppers and reserve the soaking liquid.

Step 4

In a blender or food processor, combine the ancho peppers, garlic, olive oil, honey, apple cider vinegar, cumin, and salt. Add 1 cup of the reserved soaking liquid and blend until the sauce is smooth. Add more soaking liquid as needed to achieve the desired consistency.

Step 5

Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed. If it's too thick, you can thin it out with a bit of water or more soaking liquid.

Step 6

Pour the sauce into a jar or container and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.
