Beef Brisket

Beef Brisket

Ingredients

  • 1 (4-5 pound) beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).

Step 2

In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, and black pepper.

Step 3

Rub the spice mixture all over the beef brisket, making sure to coat it evenly.

Step 4

Heat the olive oil in a large Dutch oven or roasting pan over medium-high heat. Add the brisket and sear it for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until browned.

Step 5

Add the beef broth to the pan, cover it with a lid or foil, and place it in the oven.

Step 6

Roast the beef brisket for about 3-4 hours, or until it is tender and cooked through. Check it every hour or so and baste it with the cooking liquid to keep it moist.

Step 7

Once the brisket is cooked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes.

Step 8

In the meantime, pour the cooking liquid into a saucepan and add the barbecue sauce. Bring the sauce to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, until it has thickened and reduced by about half.

Step 9

Slice the brisket against the grain into thin slices, and serve it with the barbecue sauce on the side.
