Biscuits and Gravy

Biscuits and Gravy

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Step 3

Cut in 1/4 cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

Gradually stir in 3/4 cup of milk until the dough comes together.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently for 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

Roll the dough out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out 8-10 biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass.

Step 7

Place the biscuits on a greased baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 8

While the biscuits are baking, cook 1 pound of breakfast sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.

Step 9

Once the sausage is cooked, sprinkle 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour over it and stir until the flour is absorbed.

Step 10

Gradually stir in 2 cups of milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.

Step 11

Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 12

Split the biscuits in half and serve topped with the sausage gravy.
