Hummus Recipe

Hummus Recipe

Hummus is a delicious and versatile spread or dip, popular in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines. Here's a classic recipe for making hummus:

Ingredients:

  1. Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans): 1 can (about 15 ounces), drained and rinsed.
  2. Tahini: 1/4 cup (sesame paste).
  3. Fresh Lemon Juice: About 2-3 tablespoons, to taste.
  4. Garlic: 1-2 cloves, minced.
  5. Olive Oil: 2 tablespoons, plus more for serving.
  6. Ground Cumin: 1/2 teaspoon.
  7. Salt: To taste.
  8. Water: 2-3 tablespoons, as needed for consistency.
  9. Paprika and Chopped Parsley: For garnish (optional).

Instructions:

  1. Blend Chickpeas: In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, cumin, and salt. Blend until smooth.

  2. Adjust Consistency: If the hummus is too thick, add water one tablespoon at a time, blending after each addition, until the desired consistency is reached.

  3. Taste and Adjust: Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning with more salt, lemon juice, or garlic as needed.

  4. Serve: Transfer the hummus to a serving dish. Drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle paprika and chopped parsley on top for garnish.

  5. Enjoy: Serve the hummus with warm pita bread, vegetables, or as a spread in sandwiches.

Tips:

  • For an even smoother texture, you can peel the skins off the chickpeas before blending.
  • Hummus can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Experiment with variations by adding roasted red peppers, sundried tomatoes, or olives.

Enjoy your homemade hummus!
