Ingredients

  • 1 package of lasagna noodles (about 12-16 noodles)
  • 1 pound of ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) of pasta sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) of diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 2 cups of ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.

Step 4

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.

Step 5

Add the pasta sauce, diced tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

In a separate bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley.

Step 7

To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer with 3-4 lasagna noodles, slightly overlapping them to cover the sauce.

Step 8

Spread 1/3 of the ricotta cheese mixture on top of the noodles. Top with 1/3 of the meat sauce.

Step 9

Repeat the layers of noodles, ricotta cheese mixture, and meat sauce two more times, ending with a layer of meat sauce on top.

Step 10

Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the lasagna.

Step 11

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 12

Let the lasagna cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
